| The
Cincinnati Association of Insurance Women (CAIW) hosted their first
Regional Conference in March, 1950. In contrast to the present day
bidding five years in advance, the Regional Director called CAIW
in September, 1949 asking us to take this conference. St. Louis
had been the successful bidder at the Regional Conference in March,
1949, but at the National Convention in June, their club was transferred
to Region V. With only about six months preparation, $125. in the
Treasury, and a lot of help from members, bosses, and the expert
advice of the Hotel Gibson, CAIW had a very fine conference. This
conference also marked the first time Protestant church services
were held for members on Sunday morning.
Jean
Mason’s minister and organist conducted the services, with
the Baldwin Company providing the organ. Attendance at this conference
was about 200.
In
the late 50’s the Cincinnati Association of Insurance Women,
the local chapter of CPCU Society and the Cincinnati Insurance Board
combined to establish an insurance chair at the University of Cincinnati,
thus the beginnings of the study of insurance at our local university.
