year 1989-1990, Phyllis Sapp was elected to the position of State
Director for the Ohio Council of NAIW. In 1989, Shauna Lieberman
became a member of our association and almost immediately began
serving on committees and beginning her journey through the various
committee chairs and as an officer on the Board of Directors. Through
her efforts, our membership began to increase significantly with
new members from Cincinnati Financial Corporation, thus beginning
a long and mutually beneficial relationship for our association.
During
the 1990’s and continuing until 2002, most of our monthly
dinner meetings were held at the Quality Hotel in Norwood. Members
cost for dinners was $17.50. We experimented with holding meetings
at other places, such as Receptions in Fairfield and the Best Western
in Springdale with the goal of good attendance by the members.
The
actual 50th anniversary for our association was 1993; however, we
celebrated the event at the Phoenix Hotel in downtown Cincinnati
in May of 1992. Linda Gibbons was President and Shauna Lieberman
was President Elect. That year, Phyllis Sapp was presented the association’s
Insurance Woman of the Year award.
Membership
for fiscal year 1992-93 stood at 55, with 11 members having earned
the CPIW designation.
In
1993, the National Convention was held in Vancouver, B.C. Amy Carovellano
Carroll was named the national winner of the Phoenix Life/Health
Essay Award.
In
1994, we assisted our sister association, Miami Valley Insurance
Women when they hosted the Region IV Conference at the Omni Netherland
Hotel, downtown Cincinnati. This was quite a successful conference,
featuring a number of Cincinnati “Firsts” such as the
first paid fire department. Fireman from various fire stations were
the escorts for the Presidents at the President’s Luncheon
on Saturday.
In
1995, Shauna Lieberman was named Insurance Woman of the Year by
the Ohio Council of NAIW, and was recognized by the Ohio Underwriter.
1995
was the year the Board of Directors and membership approved an increase
in local dues from $25.00 to $30.00.
The
1997 Greater Cincinnati Insurance Education Day and Conferment Luncheon
had as it’s theme “Insurance in the 21st Century: Are
You Ready?” In addition to topnotch speakers, we honored our
new CPIW’s: Annette Baird; Sharon Brooks; Dessie Davis; Susan
Kinzer-Castator; and Charlene Naylor.
May
19, 1998 was the date for our three local associations to honor
our employers and sponsors at the annual All Industry Night( Now
called the Annual Awards and Appreciation Night). IWOGC was the
host association for the event held at the Sharonville Convention
Center. The theme “Year of the Olympics” featured Nick
Vehr, former Cincinnati City Council member and spearheading the
efforts to bring the Olympic Games to Cincinnati in 2012; John Sence,
an employee of Cincinnati Financial Corporation and future Olympian,
a representative from the Special Olympics; and Mary Lee Tracy,
Olympic Gold Medal Coach.
Debbie
Ebbing, Social Chair and her committee worked very hard to make
this one of our most successful events. Debbie, along with Eva Sharpshair,
Ways & Means Chair, shared the Insurance Women of the Year honors.
