History Continues: 2005 thru 2006
 

The 60th Annual Region IV Conference was held in Merrillville, IN March 17th through March 20th, 2005. Hosting the conference was the Indiana State Council who chose as their theme, “Lights, Camera, Action”.

Four members from IWOGC attended the Conference. Susan Necessary, Delegate; Rhonda Manley, alternate delegate; Shauna Lieberman and Phyllis Sapp.

There were 219 registered to attend the conference, with 35 voting delegates. Regional Vice President, Margaret Wildi presided over the conference. Past National President, Cheryl Blair Lee, Insurance Women of Metro Detroit read the opening collect. Gloria Bruno, NAIW Vice President was announced as our National Representative.

The theme for the Thursday night welcome party was “Opening Night Premier.”

The CWC Speakoff was held during the Friday morning session, with Nancy Homan, Insurance Women of Toledo representing Ohio.

The First Timers Luncheon had as it’s theme “A Star is Born”. Friday night State Dinners had as it’s theme “American Graffiti” with entertainment by none other than Elvis. The President’s lunch was centered on “An American In Paris” The delegates elected Mary Stafford, Louisville Association of Insurance Women as our next Regional Vice President. Saturday night was the awards banquet and “A Night at the Oscars”.

Shauna Lieberman was a Presenter and Rhonda Manley won one of the special awards.
Sunday morning was “Breakfast at Tiffanys” before heading home.


The next event on the calendar was Ohio Council May Education Day, which was hosted by the Insurance Women of Cleveland and held at the Embassy Suites April 29th& 30th.
Theme was Learn Before You Leap.


The 64th Annual Convention was held in Reno, Nevada June 5-8, 2005. President Chris Kelly Storbeck’s theme for the year was “Success is a Choice.” There wee 580 attendees with 169 associations and 5 members at large. The voting delegate for IWOGC was Susan Necessary and alternate delegate was Rhonda Manley.



The annual meeting of the Ohio Council of NAIW was held at the Embassy Suites in Blue Ash on November 4 & 5 and hosted by IWOGC. This is also Legislative Day and our keynote speaker was Catherine Barrett, Ohio House Representative now serving her 4th term and 8th year on the Insurance Committee. Mary Stafford, RVP was the National representive and Ohio State Director Jeanne Hlas conducted the business of the council

The 61st Region IV Conference was held in Canton, OH March 23-26, 2006 and hosted by the Professional Insurance Women of Stark County. Their theme was “Spread your wings with NAIW.” Mary Stafford, RVP was the presiding officer for the conference.
Co-chairs for the conference were Jeanne Hlas and Rhonda McHenry. Friday’s keynote speaker was Cheryl Blair, NAIW past national president who spoke on change and “What makes you happy”. Lorene Friedman, Assistant to the RVP conducted the CWC Speakoff. Penny Duer from the Buckeye Insurance Women won the right to compete in Orlando at the National Convention. On a sad note, long time member and friend, Shirley Butterhoff, came to the conference and had to be hospitalized the first day and passed on to her heavenly home shortly after the conference ended.



Membership at the beginning of 2005-2006 association year stands at 72, three of whom are new members.

After a long battle with diabetes and heart disease, Elaine Scheffel died in her sleep on March 7, 2006. Former Member, Cindy Cox Shelton left us for her heavenly home on April 12th. We shall miss them both.

October: Joint meeting, hosted by MVIW and held at CFC for State Director’s visit.

November: “CIC” Speaks-Program by Toastmasters

December: Social – Phantom of the Opera

January: Jackie DeWitt-Spring Grove. “Notable Permanent Residents”

February: Education-Jim Meyer from CFC speaker

March: Meeting cancelled due to bad weather

April: Safety month-checks presented to buy defibralators for Butler

And Hamilton Counties.—Annual Meeting & Election

May: Annual Awards & Appreciation Night-hosted by IWOGC & held at the Sharonville Convention Center

June: Installation of new officers & guest speaker Jimmy Trevis
